Heirs of Power by Kay MacLeod

Heirs to Power

Author Kay MacLeod has written a fantasy filled with danger, suspense, battles and a new set of super heroes.  At the center of the story is Kitty Fairlow, the Archer. Kitty is an amazing hunter and protector of the throne.  Her father sends her to the palace with a delivery. Upon delivery Kitty discovers that she is not who she thinks she is but is in fact a warrior with special powers designed to protect the earth from another people, the Tenebri.  The Tenebri are a people who have sucked the life out of their planet and will do the same with Earth if they are not destroyed. Kitty is one of ten special people chosen to protect Earth with their superior gifts. She must find the other nine and bring them together before the Tenebri come back.

This is a solid read.  Good character development, great settings, (although I could never figure out in what time period it occurs) and it flows well.  MacLeod’s creation of “superheroes” is pretty fascinating. All ten of them have very interesting superpowers, which to me was the best part of the book.  The Juggler can juggle anything at any time as long as the items juggling are similar in weight. His juggling can include people too, which MacLeod does a terrific job of describing.  I do not want to give much away so I am only mentioning one of the ten.

It is important to note that this is the first in the series, The Constellation Saga.  It reads well as a stand alone novel but I suspect you will want to read more!
