Mavis Davis is a former social worker turned Private Investigator in Houston Texas who has never investigated anything but whether or not a house is in shape for foster children when the owner of a greasy spoon walks into her office and pays cash for her to find out who murdered his waitress Doris Jones.  Mavis needs the money not to mention being excited about the chance to solve a murder. The Houston police think that Doris was one of several women killed by a serial killer and Mavis is dating one of their own.

Mavis turns into a fine investigator who solves the murder in this page turner filled with twists and turns.  It is a great weekend read and I look forward to reading more in the series.
