Ordinary Hazards by Nikki Grimes

Ordinary Hazards

Ordinary Hazards is a memoir written in prose.  It is beautifully written and easy to read. Nikki reflects on her past as a child of a schizophrenic mother, moving to various foster homes, and discovering who she is amongst the upheaval in her life.  I found strength, compassion and even joy within the pages of this book. Grace appears throughout in both the story and Grimes’ writing. She is obviously brilliant and sensitive, with a remarkable ability to use words.

I am thrilled that this book was written because there are so many children and young adults dealing with mental illness in their families and this book gives them a place to go to find validation, courage and words to help them process their situation and evaluate their lives.  One of the best memoirs I have ever read!

This book is only  for pre-orders right now but will be available for purchase October 8th.  Pre-order now or put it on your wish list!
