It was with great grief that I discovered that everyone is a racist. It was with even greater relief that I discovered that everyone can work to be an antiracist. Along the lines of working to be fully conscious Kendi provides insight on how to be an antiracist and spends a great deal of time defining a more accurate vocabulary for us. I was not surprised to find that one of the issues is that the systems and policies that are in place are in fact racist and exist to continue the trend of oppression. All of us, everyone can get involved in bringing about changes to the systems and policies.
One thing is clear: we all have to become aware. We have to be willing to change and willing to bring about change. We also need to understand that step by step we can see this transformation through to the end of racism. I do not want to be a racist, I want to be an antiracist, and for now, the best way I know how to do that is to keep referring back to this amazing guide.
I am sure that I will find myself turning to this book to help me stay on course as I grow in my awareness, thoughts, and actions to become an Antiracist.
