Rising Star: Book One in the Rise and Fall of Dani Truehart Series by Michele Kwasniewski

Dani Trueheart has spent her whole life working to be a professional singer.  For almost all of her 15 years, she has been in dance classes and singing classes, both before and after school.  She has been on a diet since she was six.  Dani is used to living her life for the future and what it holds.  Dani’s Mom is a stereotypical stage Mom living vicariously through her daughter and longing for the millions that can be made.  Her Dad loves and supports her, she even has a terrific older sister.  Dani has lots of support and encouragement; she has got plenty of friends, a boyfriend, and a great manager.

Her dreams are about to come true, but can Dani do it?  All she has focused on is being a singer and dancer.  Other than being in some pageants, she has no experience with auditions and the costumes of a pop star are vastly different than a little girl in a pageant.  Then there is the business side of things like contracts, record producers, songwriters, choreographers, and someone to manage your money if you make it big.

As Dani’s dream throws her into an adult world, she realizes there is a great deal she never considered. Sure, she can become famous and make a ton of money, but she did not realize that it meant leaving home, school, friends, and boyfriend.  This is a really fun, fast-paced young adult novel that is a must-read for anyone wanting to reach for the stars.
