I am fortunate in that I get to read a lot of really good books. The best of them have characters that you never forget. Having an interesting plot is important, as is the setting and of course timeline, but a well-developed character is something you never forget. Herbert has achieved this in the Bones of Amoret.
Herbert’s characters are unique. From the small-town doctor who risks everything to care for the immigrants crossing the border from Mexico, the gay Mexican ranch hand with terrible anger mixed with a drinking problem, and the amazing homeless vet that lives in the caves outside the city, the list of characters goes on and on. They are all three-dimensional, with depth and personality that makes the reader continue to think about them long after the book has been read.
My personal favorite is Doctor Noah Grady, a man that I cannot help but compare to Walt Longmire; a man with strong values who lives them out each and every day, working to care for what and who he loves. There are layers upon layers in this man and Herbert expertly handles them all. I loved this book, the setting, the plot, the mystery but I will never forget Noah Grady. Thanks for the wonderful read, Arthur Herbert!

I completely agree with you, Julie, that I will never forget these characters. I found myself at times wondering how the author came up with the eclectic mix of characters from Dr. Grady to Hector to the Sheriff. Just a fantastic story! Thank you for sharing!
