If you have followed my blog for very long you know that I am a huge fan of Wendy Anderson’s books. The series she wrote on the Kingdom of Jior was my introduction to fantasy novels and I have been hooked ever since. In her latest novel Killian the Assassin, Anderson continues to provide readers with romance, danger, and adventure. Her new characters are flawed, strong, hard-headed, and fascinatingly interesting. I am always blown away by Anderson’s ability to describe the environment in such a way that I feel like I am present, watching the story unfold all around me.
Killian makes a living as an assassin, but he is also a very smart con man who tricks his prey into a fight or duel in such a way that it never looks like he is paid to rid the world of his victim. In between jobs he “earns” his money in knife throwing contests. He is not the most upstanding, ethical man. Lady Pearl is the most innocent of young women, having been protected and sheltered her entire life. Sparks fly and adventures abound when the two meet. As always Anderson sweeps the reader into the story, keeping the tension going, the excitement real, and the experience unforgettable.
