Flight School by Ron Kinscherf

Don’t you just love it when good authors keep writing!  In his second in the Baker’s Patio series, Kinscherf gives us the story of how the flyer ants get their Corps Goggles and become members of the Queen’s Flying Corps.  As fun as the story is about the obstacle course and training each flyer ant has to do, the meat of the story is the lesson that leaders need to lead with kindness, encouragement, and support.

Once again illustrator Brogaard provides the reader with wonderfully creative and colorful pictures that highlight the story.  The drawings certainly make you want to comfort a shaking Amy ant and a hurt Abel ant.

I can’t say enough about these books!  Between the enjoyable prose and the delightful illustrations you just can not go wrong.   It’s the perfect read-aloud story, especially for encouraging curiosity about nature.
