When Tori Winters becomes the star witness in a murder trial, someone tries to kill her. Terrified, she’s not giving the killer a second chance. With all her worldly possessions packed in her car, Tori is on the run. A mysterious phone call about an inheritance leads her to Granbury. After all, who would look for her in a small, quaint Texas town?
Instead, Tori’s life is about to spin into an existence where nothing is as it seems. The historic house she inherits is steeped in secrets from the past. Secrets that may prove deadly. A stranger in a strange town, who can she trust? There is the disinherited step-grandson and the lawyer and his son. What are they hiding? Tori’s inheritance may not be a blessing when a killer strikes again. It could be her death warrant.

Review
This is a great read! 5 Stars for sure! When Tori Winters decides that her life is complicated beyond repair, she packs up and moves to Granbury, a small town between Dallas and Ft Worth in the huge state of Texas. The move is spurred on by a phone call from a lawyer saying that she has inherited her grandmother’s home. It could not be better timing, after all, a free place to live when one does not have a job is a dream come true.
The bad news is that she has never met her Grandmother and knows nothing about her. Why would her mother, with whom she was very close before her passing, never have told her about this living relative? As Tori begins to unravel the mystery of her Grandmother, she discovers far more than she bargained for.
Dickason has created the perfect cast of characters! Tori is a very intelligent, empowered, kind woman who takes no BS and remains true to herself. She quickly makes friends and has a 6th sense for figuring out the good guys from the bad. Her new friends are prime examples of all the good people in Texas: hard-working, smart, capable, and willing to stand by their friends. From the dumb blonde socialite to the overly accommodating lawyers the characters are well-developed and fascinating to follow. The book flows from calm to high tension and back again as Tori’s life unfolds all while the reader is cheering her on and hoping her life can recover.

Julia, thank you so much for hosting my book. And, thank you for that awesome review. Working with the characters in this book was challenging. It’s a definite shift from my typical crime thrillers. I am so delighted you liked it.
